Check Out Mike Franklin’s New Crib

by Mtn Dew

This is our pad in Long Beach, CA. Our house consists of 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, and an outdoor patio. There are 6 of us living here.  It’s me and Cody Davis and 4 of our homies, Sean, Mouse, O, and Jason. It’s basically a skate house and everyone that lives here skates every day. We live on 6th St. and Lime Ave. in downtown Long Beach, CA about 6 blocks from the beach. I moved in here at the beginning of January and since then it has been good times. We like to kick it in the 2 car garage and paint stuff on the walls. Our house is about a half mile from Cherry Park, which is one of the best skate spots in Long Beach right now.  We are only a half mile from Ghetto Park, a new skate park that just opened up with the best mini ramp! This house is good times and is a perfect place to live if you skate.  Here is a photo of our pad.

– Peace, Mike Franklin

Mtn Dew AmForce Shred Fest at Warp Skatepark

by Mtn Dew

Mountain Dew AmForce sponsored the Shred Fest contest at Warp Skatepark in Lake in the Hills, IL on November 21, 2009.  The local skaters were psyched for this contest and all were gunning for the chance to earn a spot on the Mtn Dew AmForce flow team.  Warp skatepark is known as a hotbed for talented skaters, they have won the coveted Top Shop contest two years running giving them bragging rights as the best amateur shop team in the country!

It was obvious from the start of the beginner division that the local skaters here are on another level.  The little guys started the day off strong as everyone was killing the park.  Jack Paddock took top honors in the beginner division and Brandon Sjodin won the intermediate division.

The skating in the expert division was insane as all of the competitors were feeding off of one another and throwing hammers.  Some of the highlights of the day included London Davis 1st try hardflip off of the huge 3 block,  Ryan Buss huge ollie over the fly box the opposite way landing in the transition, Jason Sherbet’s transfer off of the fly box to lipslide on the flat bar, and winner Miles Canevello’s entire run.

Big thanks to the staff at Warp for putting on an awesome event and keeping the vibe super fun throughout the evening.  Congrats to Miles who earned himself a spot on the Mtn Dew AmForce skate team!

Boston Dew Tour Blog by Chris Mendes

by Mtn Dew

I was excited to go to the Boston Dew Tour because the Northeast is a lot different for me as I have always lived in Southern California.

I always look forward to going to Dew Tour cause I get to hang with friends that I don’t get see too often.  I hung out with Chaz Ortiz a lot in Boston which is always fun because we have been friends for awhile now.  I was really hype for Chaz last year when he was competing for the Dew Cup, it was cool to see one of my friends win the whole thing.

We were staying in the same hotel so pretty much we would just wake up, get something to eat, then hop a subway or taxi to the arena.  On the first day of practice this year the course was super crowded because they had international qualifiers going on.  It was cool though, I was able to get a good feel for the course and I also got to hang out with P Rod and TK for a while.

After practice we all just went back to the hotel and took it easy.  We ordered some food, chilled out, and got ready for the semi finals the next day.  I didn’t have to skate in the qualifiers because I did well on the Dew Tour last year so I was able to save myself for the semis.

I ended up getting 9th out of 27 skaters in the semi-finals which meant I qualified for the finals!  I was just so glad to be in the top 12 with guys like Chris Cole, P ROD, Ryan Sheckler, Chaz Ortiz, Greg Lutzka and the rest of the top pros that made it to the finals.  It was also really cool to see a lot of the top skaters who don’t skate too many contests come out to Boston Dew Tour. I ended up getting 12th in the finals which is really good considering the guys I was skating against.

The trip went by so fast cause I was having so much fun and before I knew it I was back at home in Moreno Valley, California. I’m already looking forward to going to Portland!

AmForce Team Update: Summer 2009

by Mtn Dew

Everyone loves summer, and for good reason. School is out, the weather is great, and it seems there is a skateboarding event everywhere you look. The summer contest season has been a good one so far for the AmForce skaters as pretty much every major Am contest has had Mtn Dew skaters in the top spots. World Industries skater Cody Davis started things off with 1st place honors at the Phoenix Am. Chris Mendes and Travis Glover followed up with great skating at the coveted Damn Am. Travis Glover made it to the finals and finished 12th, while Chris Mendes put together a perfect run that included a kickflip backside noseblunt to win the 2009 Damn Am. Chris also traveled over to China to skate in the Alli Sports China Invitational and placed 5th. Looking forward to seeing Chris and fellow AmForce skater Tulio De Oliveira compete on the Dew Tour this summer. Chris Colbourn qualified for the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, so he will also be skating at the Salt Lake City Dew Tour stop.

Eli Reed has been getting a ton of coverage lately. Check Eli’s “Bangin!” part on TheBerrics.com and, while you’re there, let him show you proper backside lipslides in the Trickepedia section. After escaping the harsh East Coast winter for the friendlier elements in California, Eli returned to NYC to celebrate the premier of Zoo York’s new video “State of Mind” and compete in Manny Mania. Eli turned a lot of heads with his video part and then, the very next day, he took out tech wizards Mike Mo and Kelly Hart to claim the Manny Mania belt. Talk about an unbelievable homecoming weekend.

Mtn Dew is about to add another top Am to its team so check back in a week to see who it is.
